How many of you have had the experience of realizing that you were dreaming while in your dream?
This is called Lucid Dreaming. Lucid Dreaming is the practice of becoming aware in your dreams and learning to control your dreams. If this interest you at all, read this blog on "How to Lucid Dream Easy"
Lucid dreaming has become a very valuable tool for me over the years. It was introduced to me by my Father at a young age, and when I started getting the hang of it, I fell in love with consciously living in my dream world. If I wanted to fly around like Superman... I did. If I wanted a pet dragon... I had one. If I needed help with a lyric to a song... I'd have Paul McCartney sit down with me and work it out etc...
The possibilities are truly endless with lucid dreaming :)
Has anyone experienced a lucid dream before?
Permalink Reply by Jessica Jones on January 30, 2012 at 11:21pm The first time I really realized I was dreaming was when in my dream I was sitting on the beach watching the sun come up and I was thinking at the time about all the tangled up emotions I had just experienced in my life. I looked to the right and a very close friend of mine who had passed away was sitting there and I looked forward again and he started asking me what was wrong. I remember so clearly looking back at him and saying, "you aren't here I'm dreaming but stay a while because I miss talking to you.". It's a little blurry now but I remember walking with him on the beach and discussing this turning point in my life. I think I realized how easily I could control my dreams after that once I realized what I was seeing couldn't really be there. Randomly I try to dream my way through things or to see someone I miss, but I haven't been able to just go to sleep and have it happen on demand. If it does I haven't remembered upon waking. I find it happens the most if something wakes me but I don't fully wake up. Then it kind of happens naturally I guess and once I realize it is I can take control and do pretty much anything. Maybe it's a skill I should actually attempt to master! Lucid dreaming "on demand". Who knows, maybe we are capable of meeting loved ones in our dreams and have them remember it too. Wouldn't it be amazing to plan quality time with those we miss just by going to sleep and picking a meeting spot. Hmmm... There's a fire pit with your name all over it Mr. Asher, see ya there! :)

So odd I just came across this, as I just did this this morning. Very interesting - I had not heard of lucid dreaming, or being able to control them. This morning's dream was pretty cool mostly but then got to a point where Lucky was lost and we could not find him. I remember thinking, you just need to wake up, you are dreaming. I did wake, but went right back to sleep and it picked up where it left off. Still looking for Lucky. Then I did wake and got up - didn't want to continue that dream! Does that make any sense? Erin, that sounds like an incredible dream. Boy how I'd love to see and talk to my Dad again. Thanks for sharing.........I will read the blog and go from there! Perhaps join ya'll at the firepit - I'll bring the chocolate and graham crackers. ;)
Permalink Reply by Melissa Hayes on March 28, 2012 at 10:45am I have been a lucid dreamer since I was about 8 years old and began having terrifying nightmares! I would wake up in a sweat, screaming and shaking. I decided one day that I was tired of being afraid to sleep so I promised myself that whatever boogeyman was after me, I would punch him in the face instead of running away. It helped me greatly! Now I use my lucid dreams to call on my grandmother who passed in 1991. I know it's not really her but conversing with her in my dreams brings me a lot of comfort. I also use lucid dreams to visualize successes and overcoming obstacles and often I wake up with plans and ideas. More than a few of my short stories have come from a vivid dream!
I had never heard of lucid dreaming until a very special person explained it to me and all of its possibilities. I thought it was very interesting but never really dove into the world of it... expectantly.
I had been missing someone that was very far away from me for long periods of time. I missed them more than I have ever missed anything in my life. One night I had cried myself to sleep from missing him so badly. I drifted off to sleep and started to dream and suddenly he came to me in my lucid dream. He assured me not to be afraid, we reached our hands out to one another and for just a slight moment our hands met with a very powerful connection. Our hands started to glow as they touched and I felt him there with me. I got so scared that my concsiousness was aware of my dream and that I was controlling it that it made my lucid dream end abrubtly. Ever since that dream, this person and I meet in my dreams every now and again and I hope that we always will.
Every family member that I have ever lost has come to me in a dream, looked me dead in the eye and told me that they were either at peace with dyeing or they werent afraid to die. I feel very lucky to have those connections with people.
I have never heard the Peter Pan quote below, "You know that place between sleep and awake; that place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I will always love you. That's where I will be waiting." What a beautiful quote.
Lucid dreaming is very powerful and you must have an open mind, heart and an extremely powerful connection to a certain person or place in order for it to happen. I recommend everyone to open your minds and hearts to try it. It is pure magic.
Keep dreaming......
